Blue Heron PTA is proud to honor Erin Sheftel as our October Volunteer of the Month. Erin is both a staff member and a parent at Blue Heron. Erin was the lead chair for the Grandparents Breakfast and organizes the offerings for Blue Heron spirit wear at the school. Thank you, Erin, for organizing such a wonderful event and contributing to our school!!
How long have you been volunteering at Blue Heron? I have been volunteering at Blue Heron for the past three years. I’ve been a learning specialist here for four years, so after getting used to my position and meeting many wonderful staff members and parents, I decided to get involved with the PTA in the fall of 2017.
Why did you start volunteering at Blue Heron? I started volunteering because I also have two daughters who go to school at Blue Heron, so I figured it was a fun way to learn more about what being part of a PTA was all about, as both a staff member and a parent. 🙂
What is your favorite way to volunteer (event, project, etc.)? My favorite way to volunteer is through helping organize the grandparents breakfast. My parents live out of state, but my in-laws live here in Colorado. As most grandparents do, they help us so much that we want to be able to thank them in any way we can. The grandparents breakfast lets them, and hopefully, many others, feel appreciated and also gives them an opportunity to spend time at and learn about our great school! What makes it even better is that it has become a family affair for us, with my husband and kids pitching in as well
What’s your favorite family pastime? Our favorite family pastime is spending time at our condo in Copper Mountain, where we love to hike during the summer, and ski and snowboard during the winter (see below picture from last weekend of our first day out this year!).
